Q:  My unusual /rare item has only been purchased a few times in the past.  ......so my listing will always be low in the Best Match sort order, right?

 A:  You are correct that the unusual word which describes your item will most likely have little or no "relavancy" with Best Match.

 But, this does not mean your listing will always be low in the Best Match sort order!  There is plenty more space in your title to include “high scoring” words.  This means your listing can score high in Keyword Relevance and display near the top of the sort order!
